SoBro Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)

PTAC was established in 1991 through Department of Defense funding. PTAC’s primary responsibility is to counsel businesses regarding government procurement opportunities. We assist all Bronx-based firms categorized as small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, minority- and women-owned businesses, veteran-owned small businesses. Through this initiative we have helped our small business clients access $129,000,000 in the past five years, generating new jobs and strengthening the borough’s business base. In an effort to market our various programs to the business community we have hosted more than 100 events and workshops for our clients to take advantage of procurement opportunities, with 44 of these events taking place in 2019 alone.

Prince Ofori

President, IKNA Construction

Much of my success as a construction contractor is attributable to SoBro. Its Procurement Technical Assistance Center helped me get certified as a New York City Minority-Owned Business Enterprise and as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. They also spent countless hours with me building my capabilities statement and assisting me in my search for contract opportunities.

As a result, I have been able to secure subcontracts for the hardening of NYC Transit Authority subway stations worth more than $650,000. After the COVID-19 pandemic came about, SoBro PTAC helped me secure a $163,795 Paycheck Protection Program loan to keep my company going.

Thanks to SoBro PTAC, I expect my company to grow in its success for many years to come.

Linder Washington

Owner, BE Washington

My company has been a client of SoBro’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center for more than 10 years. During that time, we have secured more than $1.8 million in contracts from the federal government. This level of business success would have been unachievable without PTAC’s assistance in getting my business certified as an 8(a) business development, HUBZone, and EDWOSB company. PTAC staff has also lavished time and attention on me in a variety of areas, including ensuring compliance with government certification rules and regulations and reporting requirements.

Core Services

Determining Suitability for Contracting

The government marketplace poses unique challenges that can overwhelm a company without the resources to meet them. SoBro and its PTAC staff can help you determine whether your company is ready for government opportunities and how to best position yourself to succeed. We provide education on government contracting via workshops, webinars, and one-on-one discussions of a specific or general nature.

SoBro’s PTAC staff can ensure that you're registered with the various databases necessary for you to participate in the government marketplace, including GSA’s System for Award Management, the SBA’s Dynamic Small Business Search, and other government vendor databases. SDB, 8(a), HUBZone, and other certifications can provide preferred status for some government solicitations. SoBro can help you determine whether your company is eligible for any of these certifications and guide you through the steps to secure them.

Identifying Bid Opportunities

By registering with SoBro’s PTAC you will be eligible to receive daily notifications of government contract opportunities that your company is eligible to bid on.

Proposal Preparation

PTAC staff can help you navigate even the most difficult solicitation package, including securing necessary specifications and drawings and understanding pricing considerations.

Marketing Your Firm

Whether you’re a manufacturer, distributor, service provider, or construction contractor, we can help you brainstorm specific targets, understand the mechanics of how purchases are executed, provide bid information, and connect with buying offices and prime contractors.
