Youth Education & Development

SoBRO provides opportunities for youth to develop their academic, career and leadership skills. We base our programs upon the principle that all youth can become successful by building upon their personal strengths and forming supportive relationships with peers and caring adults. Our programs focus on:

Academics
We offer daytime and after-school basic education courses to both, elementary and high school students. Our broad variety of programs engage students by applying math, reading and writing skills to creative endeavors, such as drafting a budget for a film project or writing a an article for a magazine. We also provide full-time college advisors, SAT prep courses, scholarships and excursions to various universities around the country.

Careers
We introduce high school students to a wide range of career fields by offering internships, inviting guest speakers from various industries and involving students in industry-related activities, such as music production, graphic design and journalism. We also offer training in business-relevant software programs and ensure that all of our students have full access to computer labs.

Arts
We offer a number of theme-based arts courses that foster creative development and meaningful self-expression. Programs include film production, dance, photography and poetry, amongst others.

Leadership
We involve students in leadership building activities that promote team-work and develop students’ self-confidence. Youth are encouraged to participate in decision-making roles, such as serving on SoBRO’s Youth Council and becoming team leaders in class activities.

Community Service
We integrate basic education and community service into rewarding service learning activities, such as neighborhood beautification, public service videos, and helping the homeless.
