“GREEN BUCKS” PROGRAM LAUNCHES IN THE BRONX
SoBRO, Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation and Partners Encourage Healthier Eating With New Produce Coupons Redeemable at Select NYC Green Carts.
WHAT: NYC Green Cart “Green Bucks” Program Launch
“Green Bucks,” a public-private initiative to promote healthier food options for South Bronx residents kicks off in Mott Haven with the help of SoBRO (South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation), the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation and their partners. To encourage better eating habits, students from SoBRO’s Adult Education program will receive free Green Bucks coupons in $1 increments thanks to a grant provided by Deutsche Bank. The coupons are redeemable for fruits and vegetables from participating NYC Green Cart vendors. Students will receive a map of participating Green Cart vendors in the area. Vendors will be stationed at the center for the launch.
Green Bucks coupons and maps of participating NYC Green Cart vendors will be provided to other South Bronx non-profits and community agencies for distribution to their clients, to encourage and support participation in healthy eating/health literacy programs and to increase better food choices.
NYC Green Carts are mobile food carts that sell only raw fruits and vegetables – such as whole carrots, bananas, apples and berries – in parts of the City where consumption of fruits and vegetables is lowest.
