St Mary’s Park
The Seventh Annual South Bronx Earth Fest, titled Get Green, is scheduled to take place this year on Saturday, May 17th at Saint Mary’s Park. This community celebration is attended by hundreds of Bronx residents of all ages and showcases environmentally-friendly initiatives through artwork, music, games, presentations, and dance performances. Local politicians, including Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo, and the Commissioner of the Department of Parks & Recreation, Adrian Benepe, are also scheduled to attend.
Approximately 300 students ages 11 to 19 volunteer at Get Green. As participants of SoBRO’s after school programs, these students create presentations and performances addressing topics such as recycling, sustainability, and global warming. Students’ participation in this event allows them to develop leadership skills and reinforces what they have learned in school about science and environmentalism.
